Dr Jim Hassett completed his PhD in psychology at Harvard University in 1975, and taught at Boston University and worked as a consulting editor at Psychology Today magazine.
In 1985, he started a training company, LegalBusDev, which varied from 5-30 employees, selling it after 35 years in business, and (partially) retired. Between 2005 to 2020, LegalBizDev helped law firms increase profitability by improving project management, pricing, and marketing.
He is currently serving as a senior advisor to NextGenLPM, which purchased LegalBizDev’s intellectual property. From 1985 to 2005, the company had focused on sales training programs for clients from American Express to Zurich Financial Services, as well as custom training programs for the FAA and other Federal agencies. In 1998, they were awarded as the best small business government contractor in New England by the US Small Business administration. Not just the best training company, but the best small business.
Jim has published an impressive 13 books, including the Legal Project Management Quick Reference Guide; Legal Project Management, Pricing, and Alternative Fee Arrangements; and Client Value and Law Firm Profitability. He also published more than 100 articles in a variety of publications, including the New York Times Magazine; Bloomberg Law; Of Counsel; Legal Management; Strategies: and The Journal of Legal Marketing. I have also conducted webinars through the Ark Group; West LegalEdcenter; the National Law Journal; The International Lawyers Network; TAG Academy; and the Legal Marketing Association.
